Tacos, take two

In case you missed it, here’s some follow-up to last week’s column about tacos. I’ll be reposting my reviews and stories from my weekly column for the Herald here on my blog along with extra photos that didn’t appear in print.

Wow, it looks like readers really love their tacos! Thanks for the great tips on your favorite taquerias. And keep the suggestions coming — I’m making a list for Round 2 coming later this year.

A couple of you lamented the lack of any seafood tacos in last week’s column.

Taqueria del Mar packs a heaping portion of seafood on their fish tacos.

My go-to spot for seafood tacos is Taqueria del Mar (530 Lighthouse Ave., Monterey). Their menu includes tacos made with tilapia, crab, scallop, shrimp or squid. And during the summer, look for salmon tacos too.

It’s nice to see a wide selection of seafood for the tacos: scallops, squid, crab and more!

The tacos include a generous portion of meat, topped with fresh shredded cabbage and pico de gallo. I love the dill sauce on the tilapia tacos — it’s so refreshing!

And while it’s not quite a true taqueria, Mariscos Puerto Nuevo (580 Broadway Ave., Seaside) is a great spot for Mexican seafood. (And don’t worry, there’s plenty more on the menu if seafood isn’t your thing.)
