Summer lovin’

In case you missed it, here’s a short review of Crepes of Brittany that appeared in Thursday’s Go! section of the Monterey Herald. I’ll be reposting my reviews and stories from my weekly column for the Herald here on my blog along with extra photos that didn’t appear in print.

It’s summer, that time of year most locals hunker down and avoid the crowded waterfront. This year, I’m breaking out of the mold and playing a tourist in my own hometown, braving the crowds to rediscover the great eats along Cannery Row and Fisherman’ s Wharf.

Crepes of Brittany serves up the best crepes in town.

Last week, I headed down to Fisherman’s Wharf to grab lunch at Crèpes of Brittany. This little stand has made-to-order sweet and savory crepes that are the best in town.

The savory buckwheat crepe was crispy outside . . .

I ordered a savory buckwheat crpe with Brie and caramelized onions ($8.50), adding an egg and sautéed mushrooms (each $1 extra).

. . . and filled with fluffy eggs, gooey cheese and sweet onions.

The crepes were perfectly crispy with rich, gooey cheese and light fluffy egg. Magnifique!

Crèpes of Brittany is on Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey. 601-4847. www.crepesofbrittany.com.
