Best bite: April 26, 2012

After a couple weeks’ hiatus, the Best Bite is back! For those of you who missed my column in Thursday’s Go! section of the Monterey Herald, I’m reposting the stories here on my blog. Check out this week’s Best Bite–a recap of the week’s tastiest treat! As an added bonus, check out some extra tasty bites I found this week dining around town.

Don’t let the name fool you: La Piccola Casa is more than just a pizzeria!

Last week, the Pacific Grove coffee scene got a serious jolt when Miriam — formerly of Happy Girl Kitchen and before that the eponymous Miriam’s Cafe on Lighthouse — joined the team at La Piccola Casa. I dropped by Saturday for my morning latte and a quick bite.

I had planned to linger and order a breakfast pizza, but I was running late and in a hurry, so I just got a slice of the frittata ($4.95).

The frittata was a beautiful sight to behold–and it tasted delicious too!

The pan was still warm from the oven, revealing a beautiful canvas of yellow eggs topped with slices of tomato. Underneath the fluffy eggs were mushrooms and spinach.

Don’t let the pizzeria name fool you — La Piccola Casa has mighty tasty breakfast options with pizzas, pastries and top-notch local Acme coffee now available seven days a week!

La Piccola Casa is at 212 17th St. in Pacific Grove. 373-0129. www.joerombi.com/casa.html.
