In case you missed it, here is my roundup of a couple of my favorite happy hour options around town that appeared in Go! section of the Monterey Herald. I’ll be reposting my reviews and stories from my weekly column for the Herald here on my blog along with extra photos that didn’t appear in print.
I’ve heard many couples groan about how expensive it can be to go out for a dinnertime date night. Here’s a tip to save you and your sweetheart some cash — many local restaurants offer great happy hour deals perfect for date night. Here are two of my current favorites:
Montrio Bistro (Monterey) offers a daily happy hour from 4:30 to 6:30. Mixologist Anthony Vitacca curates a menu of “lively libations” — selected cocktails are $5.50 and selected margaritas $6.
A number of Montrio’s small bites are discounted during happy hour. My favorite? Those tasty truffle tater tots — a steal at $4 during happy hour.
Just down the road, Restaurant 1833 (Monterey) also joined in the happy hour festivities with a new “social hour” offered Monday through Friday from 5 to 6:30.
Selected cocktails are priced $5.50. On the recommendation from a friend, I tried the Penicillin No. 2, a curious mix of flavors with Rancho Alegre tequila blanco, ginger and lemon.
The bar menu featuring some of Restaurant 1833’s most popular small bites — like bacon cheddar biscuits ($4), beet salad ($12) or crispy hen egg ($13) — is also available during happy hour. And as a bonus, happy hour includes complimentary truffle popcorn.
