Up late

Yikes, I realized, I never reposted this story from a couple weeks back about late-night dinner spots around town. Sorry about that! So in case you missed this column in Thursday’s Go! section of the Monterey Herald and you’re looking for late-night munchies around town, I’m reposting the stories here, complete with some photos that didn’t appear in the printed article.

Last week’s midnight premiere of “Harry Potter” got me thinking — where are some good late-night dining options around town?

I took the easy way out and paired Potter with pizza at Gianni’s in the interest of price and speed.

But what if you’re looking for something a little bit more gourmet? It’s summertime now, so several local restaurants now serve food later into the evening.

Montrio offers sophisticated munchies, like dried chile fries and truffle tater tots, alongside more elegant fare until 9:00.

Montrio Bistro (downtown Monterey) stays open until 9p.m. on weeknights and 10p.m. on the weekends. Bistro Moulin (Monterey) is also taking later reservations this summer — they’re seating until 9 most nights now.

The Cannery Row Brewing Company (Monterey) is trying to elevate the late-night pub scene with beer and grub served late — midnight most nights and 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

Restaurant 1833 keeps their kitchen open late--perfect for those late-night bone marrow cravings!

If you’re looking for something fancier than burgers and beer, Restaurant 1833 (downtown Monterey) keeps its kitchen open late, too. They’re open until 11 most nights, and even later on the weekends.

And of course Mundaka (Carmel) is a favorite for late-night dining in the area, where the kitchen dishes out tasty tapas until 10 weeknights and 11p.m. on the weekends.
